The Land of a Thousand Links

So, maybe I’m not a social reject or pariah to support forums? Well, at least for now (I’m kidding…I’m pretty charming and I like people)

We need to keep in mind that there is going to be friction, people we may not like, who may not like us, opinions we loathe or that chap our ass, there are jackasses any where we go in this world. The key is what are we going to do with the situation. I have a friend who says she “cherry picks” that which is good or that she can learn about from others. I like that and want to do it better. I want to get what is good out of people and leave the rest. Principles over personalities and all that jazz.

As many of you know, I recently wrote my strong opinion in a post about the healthy and unhealthy reasons to have weight loss surgery. Apparently I stepped on a bee hive by having a strong belief that didn’t mesh with other people’s opinion. The response from those who only read the partial post at the support forum (I posted partial posts there to not be associate with double posting on the net) and linked to the main blog here, were angry and overwhelming. I left that forum not because of the chat rooms or the people who befriended me but because of the viciousness toward anyone who expressed an opinion that varied from the crowd in the other areas. I reacted by leaving and not regretting it,  I only regret getting so upset internally. I’m entitled to my opinion, and certainly am at my personal blog. Disagree with me, I’m up for that because maybe you will persuade me, who knows.  I enjoy people being involved and communicating. It’s how we learn and grow. But you damn well better be polite about it or at least not attacking to anyone. If you wanna’ fight, go elsewhere.

I’ve been looking for other support forums and having some trouble finding something comfortable. I may have found one. WLSBoards.com and so far my results at the LapBandTalk.com boards have been positive, although I haven’t posted anything that could be misconstrued as inflammatory. Give me time, I’m sure that will happen soon enough. I can sometimes be the unwitting bull in the proverbial china shop with emotions of others, though I honestly try not to be, without compromising my own beliefs or emotions. I have watched and it seems supportive though not without opinions. That’s a refreshing impression. The chat was welcoming and sociable this morning (it was my first time in the chat room). It is not without flaw but they seem controlled. There are  many forums at separate site all off the parent site, WLS Boards. There is a Vertical Sleeve forums, a Sleeve Plication board, a Realize Band page and an RNY support site .

Because I’m doing The Atkins Diet I have looked for a quick net carb count site or program that will allow a search as opposed to going through a book. The book is nice when on the run (it’s tiny and fits in a purse or back pocket)  but at home I need to be fast.  The Diet Solution which list net carbs as well as fiber and complete carb information you can look up quickly fits the bill. There has not been food so far that hasn’t been listed at the site.

There are many groups on Facebook with awesome support and great people. So many blogs are great reads and neat people who write them that are helpful and have information: Angel , Waning Woman , MaggieMaria, Mitzi,  Loser MamaMy Tiny TankTracyTr’inaLap Band GalBariatric GirlElectric Banderella, Maria F., Liz, On The Bandwagon, and so many more (Check out my Obesity-WLS links).

On Twibes there is a weight loss surgery group for Twitter. You simply sign up, add the hashtag #wls to your tweets and the group will see it. Its been awesome for meeting other bariatric Frankenberries like me.

I hope you will share with us some of your favorites whether in comments or email to me. It is possible to comment anonymously, so don’t sweat it if you’re nervous or shy. Support is all around us if we just look, ask and keep an open mind.

We’ve got more support than a push up bra.

ooooh crap. am i not suppose to use the #WLS since I’m not part of the twibe? I usually use it when promoting my favorite WLS bloggers.

This is a great post. I’m been spending a bit more time in linkedin forums lately and luckily I haven’t had time to respond to some of the other responses in discussions I take part in. I’d have a few choice words for the so-called printing pros. but again, i’ve been super busy and haven’t had the time to respond right away, which gave me time to think on my response and decide if it was worth expending energy on. Mostly I’ve decided not to. As much as I’d like to help that group member who’s having a huge decision shoved on her by her employer about whether to buy a PC or Mac with the company’s money, really, it’s not my problem. I already gave my two cents to help her out, if others want to bash my response it’s fine, it’s not like it’s a life or death situation and i don’t think i could even comment on one of those anyway. LOL

    how u doing sistah? :-D

No, you can use any hashtag you want Princess. We just use it since it links in with others at Twiber or who are checking hashtags for topics.I agree with you “It’s not my problem” has saved me from insanity recently. I give my opinion of sugestion/advice and leave it at that…I had a 12 step sponsor in the net who gave me a rule of thumb (it is not a hard and fast numbers thing, its symbolic) “Saying it once is communicating. Saying it twice is nagging. Saying it three times is insanity.”Im not doing too badly, you would be impressed with my ability to play nice even when I find someone morally reprehensible now. It is not my job to police the worlds behavior, only that which effects ME.We’ll catch up soon when out families let us (lol)
